Hi infrastructure people,
As you might know, we have been working on an open source, integrated
office application suite, OpenAppStack <https://openappstack.net>. In
the past, some of you have indicated that you would like to help us by
testing. Right now we are looking for Alpha testers, so if you're
interested, please keep reading!
Let's start by explaining what we have done so far, and what the
testable product entails. Most of our work has gone into setting up a
K8s cluster with installed applications with 1 script, from scratch. In
practice this means that to set up "an OpenAppStack", you only need
provide a little bit of configuration (mostly specifying an IP and a
name), start a script, and wait for approximately 15 minutes. After
that, you'll have:
* Your own Kubernetes cluster (on 1 Debian VPS), running some helper
applications:
o *Nginx* ingress
o *cert-manager* to automatically manage Let's Encrypt
certificates for your applications
* User-applications:
o *Nextcloud* for file storage and sharing
o *Collabora-code* for shared document editing, configured to edit
documents in your NextCloud.
o *Prometheus & grafana* monitoring, so we can figure out what's
going on if anything breaks.
We are currently looking for people who are willing to:
* *Test the setup process*. We have been testing with our own
configurations and exclusively on Greenhost VPSs. If you have some
other VPS lying around on which you can run Debian Stretch and which
you can dedicate to a test run, that would be really helpful for us!
* *Test the NextCloud/Collabora*. Right now, we can not guarantee an
up-to-date and secure NextCloud. To get there, we would really
appreciate it if you could setup OpenAppStack and try to use the
NextCloud by, for example:
o Trying to connect a client application.
o Trying to set up a few users.
o Trying to upload a few files, use it as a "normal user" would.
o Trying to edit documents with several users, using the
automatically configured Collabora
We would like to start this alpha test around the middle of June. More
detailed test instructions will be provided to everyone interested. If
you're interested, please send an email to info at openappstack.net
<mailto:info at openappstack.net> and let us know if you would like to test
on your own infrastructure or would like us to provide you with a VPS.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheers,
Maarten and the rest of the OpenAppStack team
