Liebe mit-murat:er:innen! Dear fellow murat:lers!

Aus einer als sehr kurz andauernden Migration des Docker-Services auf 
unserem Virtualisierungsserver 'wald' ist leider eine 4,45h dauernde 
Fehlersuche geworden.

Insgesamt ergaben sich 3 Probleme, die es zu überwinden galt. Von diesen 
war das Erstere ein äußerst schlecht performendes ZFS-Dateisystem, das 
mit der übervoll geratenden Systempartition zu tun hatte. Deren 
Letzteres den vorgeschaltete Proxyserver betraf, der partout kein 
einziges Datenpaket an die dahinterliegenden Services, wie wolke.mur.at, 
weiterreichte, weil noch ein unbenutztes virtuelles Netzwerkinterface 
vorhanden, das denselben Adressraum wie das automatisch Neuerstellte 
beanspruchte.

Unter dem Strich stellte sich Docker als etwas weniger leicht zu 
migrieren heraus, wenn es um die Docker-Umgebung selbst geht.

Einmal mehr lernen wir daraus: erwarte immer das Unerwartete.

A migration of our docker service on 'wald', a server for virtual 
macines, which we expected to be a short event turned into a 4.5h 
adventure of troubleshooting.

We had to tackle 3 problems in total. The first of which had to do with 
a badly performing ZFS filesystem stemming from a overly full 
systempartition, whereas the last of those problems involved the proxy 
server which forwards data packets to the services behind. No data 
packet was being forwarded due to an obsolete virtual network interface 
which claimed the same subnet as the newly created docker network 
interface would, as well.

Bottom line is, docker is a bit less cooperative when it comes to 
migrating the actual docker environment itself!

Our yesterday's learning: always expect the unexpected.
