i wonder if it would be best to get back the neutrinet vpn for a one-off 
backup to s14 and then do the debian upgrade, instead of rushing.

change of files ownership doesn't read as a safe backup solution. Also 
other things may get forgotten to be backed up. And what about the 
peertube videos?
